Ikea craft room storage

I have discovered mod podge!

We bought one of these on our Ikea jaunt the other day since I have all sorts of odds and ends in my craft room that need to be tidied away.

After a quick rifle through my collection of scrapbooking paper (which I totally used to love doing and I have such a collection of scrapbookingy type things but now I find it a bit blah, they are all hidden in this massive plastic crate taunting me and driving my husband bonkers!) I have ended up with this!

Much better, yes?  Do you mod podge?

Thinking I might try these this next...

My creative space...

Oh, Ikea. How you taunt me from your new home... 20 minutes drive away!  Having grown up Ikea-less in Tasmania, any visiting relatives insist on a visit there as part of their itinerary.

And what am I to do as I tag along but buy 3 metres of housy fabric for no apparent reason and then have it taunt me from the craft cupboard, forcing me to make it into a new sewing maching cover!

This is supposed to be the right side cause the houses on top face the right way, but of course I prefer this side....

...they all seem to line up better don't you think?

If you are interested, it is a super easy pattern that I found here. I made sure to measure up my own machine to be sure of a correct fit and I also tend to use trusty baking paper from the kitchen to draw up a pattern before cutting up the fabric. Would hate to waste any of that 3 metres of housy fabric!! Any ideas on what I can use the other almost two and half metres on????

This week I also tried my hand at making a fabric yo-yo!  Addicted after only making one!  I followed Emma's advice over at Frog, Goose and Bear and bought a yo-yo maker online with the Haby Goddess - super fast postage and a wee freebie was included!

I'm thinking of making up a few simple skirts and teaming them with a t-shirt decorated with a couple of yo-yo's made using the same skirty fabric for little girl birthday presents!

Other creative types hang around over at Our Creative Spaces on Thursdays.

Winner!

Look what arrived in the post for me today....

Thanks FatMumSlim!  I won it by pledging my love for all things Ikea.  Which actually wasn't very hard at all since every room in my house has something from Ikea in it.  This book is full of 9 lovely Swedish homes that you can drop into and steal ideas from...

...which I wholeheartedly intend to do!

Furniture Bogan

Yes, actually, I have just downloaded the free Ikea app to my iphone. Well, I am trying to anyway! So far it has taken almost an hour and most of my phone battery. Goodness only knows what it's doing to my internet usage bill!!!
I must say I am quite addicted to Ikea. I know some can't stand the same-sameness about it all, but I happen to think that your house isn't a home without an Expedit bookcase or two somewhere in it! Do you agree?
I love the manic busy-ness of a Sunday morning visit, all 3 children in tow, all of whom simply refuse to sit in a pram or trolley! I love the fake rooms, the tiny pencils (the kids have quite a collection of these at home) the bickering partners. I love the whole self-helpness of it all! The insane queue at the checkout! The fact that you cant take your trolley to the car that gives you an excuse to sit on all your goods with an Ikea soft serve in the collection carpark while your husband wrangles the three smalls back to the car and then has to fight his way back to collect you! The getting everthing home via the Eastern Freeway tied to the roof of your car and the instant demanding need to put everything together as soon as its in the front door!
Are you an Ikea bogan too? Go on, admit it!
