The Kiss

Just couldn't help myself!  Snapped from the tv onto my iphone for all eternity!

Love love loved it!  The dress, his uniform, the whispering, the smirking glances, the hats, the tiny flower girl attempting to throw herself from the balcony!

Tell me you loved it too?

My Creative Space.... & Animation Friday!

It's all about birthday cakes round here this week!
This is heading to Oscar's bowling party tomorrow and I do hope there is enough to go round the 17 children we have ended up with!

This is almost an exact replica of the Pinata cake from the Womens Weekly birthday cake books and was much easier to do than I thought - the chocolate shell kinda looked intimidating at first but slipped right out of the bowl and onto the cake exactly as the recipe said it would.  The worst bit was attaching all the coloured smarties and m&ms - an almost 2 hour labour of love! - one for the cake, one for me!

You can join in with Cintia's animation Fridays over this way and Kirsty's creative spaces are right here!

Happy 7th Birthday Oscar

Are you ready for a photo fest?

Oscar, freshly home from hospital.  Can someone please tell me what to do with this small person???

Oscar's first birthday - Spot the Dog theme, including the overalls he's wearing where the little bib on the front opened up to reveal all of Spot's friends!  And yes, I still have it.

Oscar turns 2 with an Oscar the Grouch cake (special tin bought from ebay and I've only ever used it once!) and the truck cake below which we had at a party we shared with another little friend.

Oscar turns 3 with a HUGE train cake!  Word to the wise - never make a cake this big and then have to put it in the car to travel to the party.  You will be freaking out the entire time about its safe arrival.

Oscar turns 4 with The Cat in the Hat!  Possibly my favourite cake I've made.

Oscar turns 5 with a party in the park and a slightly wonky Lightening McQueen cake.  Word to the wise - cakes need to be bigger than this if you are expecting everyone to get a piece!

Oscar turns 6 with a Traffic School party and a traffic themed cake - complete with a cherry ripe bridge!

And one 7 year old boy with his dad this morning, off to school.

We love you buddy and hope you have a wonderful day.

Goodness me, break over!

Don't you just love when you go from virtually doing nothing to doing everything all at once?

We had a lovely easter break and lo and behold I did survive without an internet connection or any phone service (which was not really by choice, rather a bad decision when choosing a service provider who shall remain nameless... but might start with a V!).

We are now all systems go this week. School, kinder and creche go back tomorrow. School swimming starts tomorrow for the next two weeks (give me a yay for the joy of soggy, chlorinated towels every day!). Netball on Thursday for me and normal after school swimming for the boys. Auskick on Saturday too!

More exciting for us is it's birthday week for Oscar - our big boy turns 7 tomorrow. The school cupcakes have been baked and we have just finished wrapping the small pile of goodies for him to unwrap in the morning. This year he is having a bowling party with a few (loads!!! $$$$) friends. I've even sewn the lolly bags this year after coming across some super cheap horrendously ugly bowling fabric! I'm also going to attempt the pinata cake from one of the Womens Weekly cookbooks - the one with the chocolate shell that you break through to get to the cake and lollies!

Tonight I started on my cushion too, ready and raring to go for my secret recipient in the Cushion Swap 2011. I'm feeling a bit nervous about this actually! I do hope she likes crochet!

It sounds like everyone had a lovley Easter break. I have loved reading about all those fantastic easter egg hunts and really, who cant go past chocolate for breakfast!  This lot certainly couldn't!

Happy Easter

Dear Easter Bunny, please bring the eggs to the beach house. Oscar and Isaac and Matilda

We are leaving this little note behind when we leave for the weekend.  We are off to Venus Bay, a lovely little spot with absolutely no phone reception on my phone and no internet access.  This is either a good thing or a bad thing.  I haven't decide which yet.

When I suggested to my  husband that perhaps we purchase one of those plug in internetty things for my laptop he said he had other suggestions to keep me entertained.  This too is either a good thing or a bad thing.  I haven't decided which yet.

Happy Easter everyone.  See you on the other side.

Blog Love

Have you visited A Granny a Day?

As the title suggests, Dana is attempting to crochet a granny square a day for a year.  So far she seems to be doing a top job!  Recently she posted this beautiful finished blanket...

How gorgeous is that?!  I love how she has interspersed the flowers with some straight granny squares.  You can see more of this beautiful rug on her blog.

Sleep is for the weak.

I could show you a thousand of these images - the small girl, tired, grizzly, refusing a day sleep, would rather wait to collapse on a chair, the floor, the swing outside, the trampoline. Anything to avoid a nap in her bed where she thinks if she drifts off she might miss out on something.

I cant resist though, capturing that image of a sleeping child, the calm after the storm.
My phone is literally full of them.

Cushion Swap!

Yay, look what I just signed up for!  I must now make a cushion before May 23rd and send it off to a mystery recipient (worldwide!) and I will recieve a lovely cushion in return.  This is the first time I have done something like this so I hope my crafty skills are up to task.  And I really hope my mystery person likes granny squares!

If you would like to join in, you need to sign up before April 25th.  You can see all the details if you visit Punky and Me.

Babushka Tupperware!

Just some more lovely ladies to add to my collection.

These ones are obviously from the same range as the measuring cups and spoons.  I dont think I will use them to hold food as the picture suggests.  They are going straight to my craft table to hold various bits and pieces!

My girlfriend gave me these ones but I think you could probably buy your own from a lovely homewares store.

Point and Shoot: A Shadow Shot

What do you do on school holidays when the first sight of sun apears after what feels like a week of rain?

Playground anyone?

I love how the smalls never get sick of going to the little playground round the corner from us.  We tend to scoot there, swing, slide and seesaw, then scoot home again.  Just enough to break up our day a bit and not too far away that anyone gets 'cranky' legs from having to walk to far.

This week I'm grateful for... museums!

We are on school holidays at the moment and while it is a little mad around here, we have enjoyed the more relaxed morning pace.

We took a wee jaunt into the city, payed a ridiculous amount of money for parking and wandered around the museum.  To be honest, we didn't take advantage of all it has to offer.  We let the small people take the lead and basically did what they wanted for however long they wanted to do it.  The dinosaur room, the somewhat freaky stuffed variety of animals room and the children's museum were quite popular.  Most entertaining however was our visit to the Human Bodies area.  The nudey pictures for children currently enthralled with toilet humour were a winner.  The fart button of course also topped the list.

But really, I am most grateful that my children have been provided with an answer to 'where did I come from' without my help at all!

Yes, that is exactly what you think it is!  And we had to watch it twice.

Wordless Wednesday- To infinity and waaaaaaay beyond!

Will he forgive me, do you think, when he is 21 and I remind him that he went to kinder dressed like this.... in a too small Buzz costume that his bottom ate all day?

Jane Eyre

I am totally going to this... on my own I think.  With my own bag of popcorn.  I am going to sit up the backish and in the middle.  I would be happy if you want to come with me, but you will have to buy your own popcorn.  I'm not so good with the sharing.

The holes are where the love goes.

Day two of the school holidays and I think the smalls have already started ganging up on me - trading turns on who is going to misbehave the most during the course of the day.  So far, Isaac appears to be winning.  If I told you about the way we had to leave the shops this afternoon, you'd either die laughing or hang your head in shame with me.  Lets just say it involved A LOT of screaming about bey blades, mean mummies and an apparent lack of treats and chocolate milk.

I had a sad start to the day as well, attending the funeral of my friend's mum who had gone missing at the start of the month.  I haven't been to many funerals in my life (lucky for me really) and I found this one particularly hard and very sad.  I felt like calling my own mum straight afterwards and find myself at times like these wishing we lived in the same state at least.

Instead, I am sending her this little crocheted scarf number, modeled by the almost 7 year old!  I read a lovely little saying once about granny squares and their ability to keep you warm since they are full of holes.  Apparently the holes are where the love goes.

Dont be tricked by that sweet face - I still have the screaming for bey blades ringing in my ears!

My creative space...

Again with the shocking photos... I know, sorry!

This creative space has really become my nightly ritual.  Setting myself up on the carpet with the essentials - laptop, crochet, magazines (yay to new Donna Hay!), a cup of tea and crappy tv.

Not really sure where I am heading with these circles, soon to become squares.  I am using this lovely pattern from The Royal Sisters and the extra wool I ended up with after finishing Oscar's granny stripe rug.

Praps two rows of them together might make a lovely winter scarf?  I do like those lovely warm colours.  The problem is, now I know how to do something crafty I literally cannot sit in front of the tv without hooking something in my hands.  Have you found that?

Put a smile on your dial!

Do you follow How About Orange?  If you don't then you must!

Today she has the most superb free downloadable bunting you are ever going to see!  It thrills my bunting loving heart!

Point and Shoot: Football in miniture.

The middle one joined up to Auskick this weekend.  I think he was more chuffed with the outfit, the shoes and the free bag full of various football paraphanalia rather than the actual concept of running, kicking and joining in some type of group activity.

Oh, the sideways smirk!  It gets me every time.

Play along with Point and Shoot.

An update

Thank you to all those people who expressed concern for my friend Shelly yesterday.  This morning I recieved a text from her letting everyone know that her mum has passed away, found in some bushland.  I am not aware of any other details at this time.  Thank you again for your kind words, and I will pass on your sympathies and best wishes to Shelly and her family.

Friday, April 1, 2011

This week I'm grateful because I know where my family is.

I am grateful because I know where my mum is.  I can ring her whenever I want and speak to her about whatever I want.  Even though we dont live in the same state, I can visualise her in her house, at the shops, having coffee or at my sister's place.

My friend Shelly is not in the same boat.  Two weeks ago her mum disappeared without a trace.  She was driving to her own mother's house to take her to a doctor's appointment and never arrived.  Neither her car or herself has been seen since.

Please look at these images below and if you know anything or have seen anything please let the police know.

Animation Friday

We went on a kinder excursion to the farm.  I believe she is blowing raspberries at the ponies!

make a gif

Really, it's such ladylike behaviour.  I think we can thank her brothers.

And this is one of the culprits!  Isaac and his sideways glance and smile pop up in every photo I take of him!

You can join in and make your own Animation with Cintia at My Poppet.
