My creative space...

The start of the Mario blanket!
It's going to be huge!
I will definately need to order more blue wool!
Praps I should have made my grannies four rounds instead of five!

Sunday Snippets

I'm a Sunday Snippet Virgin (!), joining in for the first time today.

My week looked like this....

Got paranoid about my yellow jaw after having all my wisdom teeth out.
Went to the boys school Open Night where Oscar though he might like to learn the drums.  Um, no.
Stood in line at Medicare for 20 minutes.  Realised I did not need to be there and should have gone to my private health fund instead.
Had Poppy Jim over from Tassie for a quick visit.  He brings chocolate hence Matilda's lovely smiley face.
Picked up the boys from school in this weather.
Came home to find a certain young lady asleep in the beanbag.
Went to the Hairy and should have realised that when he started shaving my neck it meant that it was a little shorter than I wanted!
Made a super cute 'Bunting' skirt!
Started the Mario crochet blanket.

(all photos are quite lazily from Instagram)

My weekend Creative Space!

I had a little skirt making session this afternoon and just couldn't wait till Thursday to share it for Creative Spaces!
Even better, it's a skirt I pinned onto Pinterest and then actually followed through with making!
It's called the Banner Day Skirt and I think it's probably meant for summer but I have made mine with some denim I had and some left over charm squares from my attempt at quilt making!  It's supposed to look like bunting on the bottom of the skirt which I think will be just perfect to brighten up dreary winter days.

Whilst it took me most of the afternoon to complete, I am really pleased with how it looks and will definately make another one!  Since I gave Matilda's wardrobe a wee cleanout, I am fairly certain I can fit a few more coathangers in there now!

My creative space...

Yay!  My wool arrived!  Love coming home from a (winning!!!) game of netball to find lovely packages on my doorstep.  I shall be starting the Mario blanket straight away!

I whipped this reversible number up for one of lovely nieces.  She's 11 and quite the bike-riding triathlete so I thought this lovely Michael Miller fabric was very appropriate.  I went shopping for this down at Gail B's in Bayswater and I literally had to have my blinkers on when I went in so that I wouldn't buy the entire fabric range in the store!!!!

Can anyone help me with this annoying technical issue???  Every time I visit a webpage I get this annoying little pop up ad in the bottom corner of my screen and I can't seem to get rid of it.  I've run my virus software through, a cleaner program, looked at at all my pop-up settings and still it taunts me!

Creative spaces is now at Village Voices on Kidspot.

Mario Crochet!

If there is one thing I have learnt, it is never to early to start party planning, or in this case, present planning!
Isaac has already decided he'd like a Super Mario Party for when he turns 6... in October!  And since I have been a neglectful parent in crocheting him a blanket as yet I am going to give this one a try....

It's actually quite straightforward since it is made up of a bunch of coloured squares joined together, a pixelated image if you will!

And how useful that someone has already created the pattern for me....

So, that's only 252 squares to crochet!

I wonder though whether I should make them all and then sew them together or go line by line and join them as I go?

Feelings

This is what I look like today after having all of wisdom teeth removed yesterday.  Just without the mask.  My head is so wide at my jaw I couldn't put my tshirt on this morning so I am staying in my pyjamas all day.  You should see the icepak the hospital sent home - it wraps around my cheeks and ties at my head like a headband.  I feel like crap and look it too.
When I saw this today on the Etsy blog and I had to share.  Because it has babushkas.  And because it it is beautiful.  Which I am not, today anyway.

My Creative Space...

...with real pictures from a real camera (and not just one's from my instagram feed)!!!

The inspiration...
(from Mollie Makes)
And the real thing...

The pretty front...
And the plain back.
I crocheted my cushion inside it's cover since I think it will be used less as a cushion cushion and more of a pretty to look at cushion!  Just treble the front and back together and squeeze the cushion once you reach the fourth side!

I am in love with these little squares!

I shall go and wrap it now since it's being gifted to super lovely friend of mine.  Hope she likes it!

More creative people are over at Village Voices on Kidspot now.

Onwards and Upwards

A day makes such a difference in one's mood!  I went to my lovely little bookclub last night after feeling shirty all day and a few glasses of red, a block of Cadbury Rocky Road and waaaaay too much talking put me right back on track.

My mood continued to be lifted today when I recieved this lovely little parcel in the mail from Plushka's Craft that I won.

Then I found The Liberty Book of Home Sewing at the shops for $18!

And I managed to squeeze in some sewing!
This cute sneaker flannelette is from Spotlight and I have whipped up some pj pants for a little guys birthday this weekend.  I'm popping some plain spencer style tops with them and will probably put a little sneaker panel on the top too.
(not a great photo!!!)
I also found some cute bedlinen at Target the other day in just the right colours for his bedroom which I snapped up, so I'm totally gifting with a 'theme'! Atlhough I am reminded of this scene in Toy Story where some poor child arrives with bedsheets and the toys are horrified... "Who invited that kid?!"

Happy Wednesday!

!!!Whinge Warning!!!

My face aches.... wisdom teeth.
They are coming out on Friday.  All four of them.  I am being knocked out for this.

I have been so focused on the pain I have not really been blogging, creating, commenting or reading.
I have been living on a cocktail of nurofen, panadine forte and antibiotics for about a month.  When I went and saw the surgeon yesterday he was asking about my kids and I thought he was asking with regard to what surgeries and what-not I'd had  and how I might have reacted to a general anasthetic in the past so I madly started detailing all my personal fanny details.  Turns out he was only asking so he could schedule a surgery time that would fit in with my mad life.  Whoops.

I had to work on Mother's Day and the three days prior to that which was crappy and busy.
Ladies, when the door is halfway down in a store it generally means that we are closing in about 3 seconds.
It does not mean come on in and try on every article of clothing you can lay your hands on then leave them all on the floor for me to pick up and rehang for you and then after all that only buy a scarf.... that was on sale... with a further 50% off.
Gentlemen, you have known for 12 months that Mother's Day is coming.  Waiting till 4pm on Saturday to buy a dressing gown, pjs and slippers is probably not a good idea since all the sizes you will want will have previously sold.

I have been trying to finish my pretty crochet cushion.  On the last row of the cushion back I ran out of wool.  When I went to get some more today I tried to put my blinkers on and go straight to the wool section.  Instead I was forced to meander through the fabric too.  Instead of spending $5 on a ball of yarn, I spent $117.

Whinge done.

My creative space...

More skirts this week!  I'm really cutting down my time making these reversible numbers and small people seem to love them.  I've had a sweet report of one little poppet whipping into the loo to change her skirt around several times during a kinder sesion!

I do need to find a reliable source of ric rac however!  I can't consistently seem to find lots of colours or of a good quality.  Spotlight is a good stop gap for quick supplies but... it is Spotlight!

I loved the owls on this one but I like to give them a plainer side too so spots make another appearance.

The crochet cushion making is coming along too.
How satisfying is a pile of cut off yarny tails???!!!

The front...
It will look better once it's stretched over a cushion.

I'm crocheting a plain back for this one.
The pattern comes from Mollie Makes.

Love these clover soft touch hooks.  I'm building up a wee collection of these.  I'm waiting for my lovely friend Penni's new shop, The Stash Cupboard, to bring in some other sizes I am missing so I can complete my collection.

My creative space has moved over to Kidspot now....

Where the wild things are

"And he sailed back over a year
and in out of weeks
and through a day
and into the night of his very own room
where he found his supper waiting for him
and it was still hot."

"...let the wild rumpus start!"

Granny Cushion and Lamp Love

Did everyone spy this lovely cushion in Mollie Makes?
This is a lovely easy granny pattern from this lovely lady.  I absolutely adore the granny covered lamp she has made that goes perfectly with her cushion!

I'm using 8ply Moda Vera pure wool from Spotlight.
And I have almost finished weaving in all these little ends.  (I find something oddly thereaputic about it actually!)

I'll be gifting this to a friend in the next week or so, so I hope it turns out alright!
I promise to locate my real camera and get a good photo of the finished product!

My creative space...

It's all about spots and skirts...

Spotty t-shirts for the boys to wear to a wee girly friends Spotty party.

Grab spotty fabric, cut out big circle spots, sew them on a plain t-shirt.
Spotty Party Ready.

Pale blue spots on one side....

Navy blue spots on the other.
Will it be overdoing the whole Spotty theme by pairing this with navy spotty leggings and a nay top with pale blue spotty
 yo-yos?

And what does one do when you stuff up the binding on the bottom of the skirt?!  The binding didn't catch both layers of the fabric so then I had to add that fancy zig zag stitch to fix it up.  I'm going to pretend it was on purpose if anyone asks.

This one's a special order for a friend...
Little Red Riding Hood fabric from Spotlight.

And the other side - Lisette fabric from Spotlight too.

And another reversible number...
Dolly Clothing fabric from Spotlight too.

And the navy blue from the Lisette range.

I'm thinking of making a few of these reversible numbers and maybe selling them at a little market later on this year.  So far I've only ever really made things for people I know and my own little poppets so the wee quirks (errors!) in each one have not really been an issue.  I might have to smarten up my sewing skills!
