My creative space: Unfinished!

Please tell me that I am not the only one with eleventy billion crafty projects on the go at once, none of which are recieving my full attention, all of which are strewn across the craft room floor????

This basket of traditional granny squares made using left over bits of yarn from various other projects.

The rainbow rug, using Lucy's granny stripe tutorial.

The rest of the colours for the rainbow rug.

And of course, the poor Mario blanket.  Which has all but been forgotten about since I ran out of the blue and it's on back order with the Bendigo Woollen Mills and since I am joining as I am going I can't continue on with the other colours without ruining my pattern of joining!

So of course with all of that laying about the house I'd want to start something new!

After seeing this beautiful scarf I had to give it a go myself.  The wool is a purchase I made on my Hobart weekend from The Stash Cupboard and my instagram pictures really don't do the colour any justice.  It is a Cascade Yarn in a lovely steel blue colour.

What's on your hook at the moment?
Some beautiful 'completed' creative spaces are at Kidspot.

Skinny Love

I'm obsessed with this song at the moment.

But could someone please explain the lyrics to me...

"Skinny Love"

Come on skinny love just last the year
Pour a little salt, we were never here
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer

I tell my love to wreck it all
Cut out all the ropes and let me fall
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Right in this moment this order's tall

I told you to be patient
I told you to be fine
And I told you to be balanced
And I told you to be kind

In the morning I'll be with you
But it will be a different kind
I'll be holding all the tickets
And you'll be owning all the fines

Come on skinny love what happened here
We suckled on the hope in lite brassieres
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Sullen load is full, so slow on the split

And I told you to be patient
And I told you to be fine
And I told you to be balanced
And I told you to be kind

And now all your love is wasted
And who the hell was I?
I'm breaking at the bridges
And at the end of all your lines

Who will love you?
Who will fight?
Who will fall far behind?
Ooh, ooh

I did ask Google but he wasn't very helpful.

Weekend Escapes

Excuse me while I indulge in iMovie on the iPad!

I've just come back from a three day escape with my sister.  No husbands, none of our own children.  Lots of catching up with lovely friends.  Lots of giggling, wandering and eating.

And I didn't really sin...

....much.

Now, if someone can tell me why the location thingy pops up when you do a title in iMovie, things would be just peachy.

Hobart

I'm escaping tomorrow for the weekend.  Three whole days with nary a husband or a child (that belongs to me!!!) in sight!

I grew up in Tasmania, in Devonport and went to Hobart for uni.  Met my husband there, moved to Melbourne, had some babies and forgot to ever go back for a visit!  I think in the 13 or so years since we moved I've been back to Hobart maybe once!  Our Tasmanian jaunts always focus going back to Devonport where both our families still live, so I'm quite looking forward to getting back to Tassie's chilly capital!

My sister is driving down for the weekend too and we plan on giggling our way through the next three days with eating, Salamanca marketing, catching up with friends and maybe getting a litte bit of ink!!!
(clearly not me, it's Christina Ricci, but I am totes being a copycat!!!)

See you on the other side!

I've fallen in love with the Next button!

How do you read your blogs?  Me... I stack 'em and rack 'em using the Google Reader.  It's unattractive and not perfect for commenting or pinning or anything really but straight reading and then scrolling onwards.  I've become the worst kind of blog reader.... a non-commenting, uninvolved one!

But that's all about to change with my discovery of the NEXT button!!!!
How have I not known about this before????

1. Go to your reader settings in google reader.
2. Click on the tab called goodies.
3. Drag the NEXT bookmark to your bookmarks bar.
4. Revel in the magic of reading blogs on their beautiful bloggy pages!
Now I can click on that Next button and it takes me to your actual blog!  I can comment straight away!  I can pin crafty things straight away!  I can watch video links straight away!
Did you know about this??? Or am I the only blonde one???

Birthday bonus.... Tonsilitis!

Ahh, 37.  What a welcome you have given me.

It started on Sunday night when I went to bed with a funny tickle in my ears that seemed to reach it's fingers into my throat.  Monday I just felt weary.  It started to hurt when I swallowed.

Tuesday, my birthday.  I had grand plans of meeting some lovely friends for lovely coffee whilst being lavished with lovely gifts.  Instead I woke up at 3am vomiting with achey bones so bad I sobbed while my husband snored.

Is there anything more pity party inducing than spending your birthday lying on the couch moaning?

I did manage to bake my own birthday cake on Monday afternoon.  A very sad looking replica of the sewing machine from the Australian Women's Weekly Birthday Cake Book.  At least the kids liked it, and I have bags of left over lollies in the cupboard since I only used a couple for decoration anyway.

And I did end up with lovely gifts of course....

Birthday money was used to finally pick up the ipad I had on layby.  It only took me three hours last night to crack my wifi security so that the bloody thing could work!

And some very lovely friends of mine spoilt me with a lovely pile of goodies too!

I'm off to Hobart next weekend (all by myself!!!!) to catch up with some friends and family so I am planning on celebrating my birthday a little better then.  Salamanca Market, The Stash Cupboard, dinner out, staying in a hotel.  Yes please!

Have you ever been sick on your birthday???

BMI....

This is Matilda.  I'm sure you've seen her here before.  She's three and half and has the sweetest wee smile, dimples and all.

Today I took her for her health assessment at the Maternal and Child Health Clinic.  I have no concerns about her and only really go now so that I can get her book filled in with all the important stuff - her height recorded and ticks placed in all the right spots for her ability walk up stairs by her self and ride a three wheeler!

Before we left today I was given her BMI (body mass index) and ever so politely informed that according to this measure, my healthy three year old is overweight and that I should consider dietary changes.  I am horrified that this is the information now presented to parents.  Had this not been my third child and I was not already jaded by the overwhelming amount of advice handed out to parents, I am sure I would have come home and sobbed into the couch!  I am sure I would have assessed and reassessed every item of food that went into her poor mouth.  I'm sure I would have come home to cook a healthy dinner of vegetables served on vegetables!

Instead I put it on facebook.

I've laughed about it all afternoon.  I've laughed with the school mums at pick up time, and giggled with my husband over the phone.  I rang my mum and my sister and my best friend.

Cause if I dont laugh about it, I might seriously cry.

Because even though she is my third child, a little bit of it slipped in and I am beating myself up with the guilt.

Birthday Month!

August is Birthday Month for me!  I insist a fuss be made at least a week either side of the actual date which gives interstate relatives and friends plenty of time to get their large and cumbersome gifts in the post.  I love my birthday!  I still count down the sleeps.... 12 to go for those interested parties!
I'm hoping my ipad gets picked up from layby (a marvellous invention that...layby. I've picked it, put a deposit on and will just hand over the receipt!)

I've booked a weekend away in Hobart for the end of the month too.  Since I am originally from Tassie, I'm quite looking forward to catching up with some friends and family and most importantly spending an entire morning wandering around Salamanca Market WITHOUT ANY CHILDREN!

I'm also hinting to anyone that will listen that I want the sewing machine cake from the Australian Woman's Weekly Birthday Cake Book!

Birthday Month started with a bang when I won this sweet little prize from Amelia and Atticus blog.  I realise it's not for me but I have as much fun putting the girl child in cute outfits as she does wearing them so I benefit as well in the end!

In other news, I'm thinking of returning to teaching!  We are just waiting for Darren's work to settle into some kind of routine and I then I'll start picking up some relief teaching days... I hope.  Going through some old photos last night I came across this smashing effort I made for Book Parade Day....
I totally rocked that Cardboard Hippo Sandwich Board Dress Up!
The book - Too Loud Lily.
My teaching buddy and I.  Bek was Wanda Linda from The Terrible Underpants!

This must have been 2002/2003 before Oscar was born.

Happy Thursday everyone.
