Book Character Parade

The more that you read, the more things that you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.

Dr Suess

Oscar was one of about 25 Cats in Hats during his book character parade at school! He's never been one for dressing up so it took some encouragement to get dressed in this for school this morning. He was really happy he did in the end. And I was impressed that the whole school, even those too-cool-for-school Grade 6s made the effort! Oscar is having such a great time in Prep and we were super lucky to get the best teacher in the whole wide world for his first year at big school - the lovely Miss T in the top picture dressed as Jack's mum from Jack and the Beanstalk.

Point and Shoot: Sunshine and sisters

I spent the weekend in Tassie enjoying the company of my big sisters and of all things, some sunshine. I find it incredible that I had to come to Devonport to get some warmth in my bones! I must have bought some home with me though as it has been lovely in Melbourne today - just perfect for the 7 (!!!) loads of washing I have done and managed to squeeze out on the clothesline.

I took Matilda with me and left the boys with daddy and it was really good for everyone. Even though I wasn't gone for long, it was long enough to appreciate all those little things at home that you dont realise - like your own bed and pillow! Matilda loved seeing all her big girl cousins and aunties and uncles but was super excited to see her big brother Oscar at the airport when we got home. She ditched daddy for him! While we were there I was able to have brunches at lovely cafes, shop at this lovely place buying some very cute babushka things and catch up with some of my besties.
This is Matilda with two of her lovely cousins farewelling us at the airport.

Ever worked at a supermarket?

I did. For about 10 years on and off. Along with the meagre Austudy allowance it helped keep me from starving at uni. But my word did I get sick of saying, how are you and not really meaning it! A friend at uni drew this great cartoon for me in the middle of one of our lectures. I remember laughing so hard I may well have peed myself. And in the end, I didn't blow up the manager... I just married him instead!

ps. sorry for the swearing!

Score!

Look what I've won tickets to go and see before everyone else! Yay! Now I just need a date.... or someone to babysit my children so I can actually go out with my husband! What a novelty that would be!

Thanks goes to Kelly at the Crafty Minx for winging tickets my way. All I had to do was say what my all time favourite movie was and why - clearly The Princess Bride. If you haven't seen it, find it and watch it! Then read the book. It's just as good!

Point and Shoot & At my house...

Is it cheating to join in on both things at once? I dont think so.... well, I hope it's ok anyway.
Point and shoot first up....
I think my little baby girl is growing up.

Monday, August 23rd, 8.30am

Those are two of the sweetest pony tails ever. She has the softest baby fine hair still but you have no idea how excited I am that it's long enough for ponies now! (Wonder how I got her to sit still long enough to get them in.... Play School!) Excited but freaking a bit cause babies dont have pony tails, big girls do!
And at my house...
I think we have finished breastfeeding! Friday night, she fell asleep early and missed out on her nighttime feed. I went out on Saturday night so daddy put her to bed and because I wasn't there, she clearly survived without it. This has happened before on the odd night I have escaped, but the following day she seems to remember she missed out on them and will come to me at some point fossicking down the front of my top! Sunday night, she sat at the bench with her brothers and had a cup of milk with them instead of coming to me.
So is that it then do you think? I have breastfed 2 and a bit children for about 40 months when all added together! I dont mind if she hasn't finished and comes back for more but I'm wondering whether to offer it to her not. Anyone want to come to my 'burn the maternity bra' party?
Join in with point and shoot or at my house. Or join me in cheating and whack them both together!

Baby obsessed...

I have my three babies and I am almost certain that I am Done... with a capital D! But I still love reading about them, hearing about new pregnancies, peeking at new little people in prams, hearing everyone's stories about how their little people came into being.
Want to put a smile on your dial and see and hear and read some wonderful things about small, tiny people?
  • Go here first and look at what Pacing the Panic Room has done with his maternity series. Scroll right through and make sure you see it right from the start!
  • I've only just discovered this on SBS - One born every minute. Best thing is - you can watch it on your laptop at ungodly hours of the night when your husbands away for work and you cant sleep!
  • And, I do believe you will need tissues for this one. For those who know Sheye's story, this only further proves what an incredibly brave and strong person she is.

At my house...

We haven't got an awful lot done today at my house. I woke up feeling quite blah and made an executive decision that while a certain young lady was asleep today I would not do any housework! What you can see is exactly what I have been doing.... eating lindt balls and surfing around some of my favourite blogs. The ones you see are dark chocolate mint and cookies and cream and are worth every additional love handle I have!
What I had every intention of doing was cleaning out my cookbook cupboard. I have a small addiction to cook books and recipe magazines and have an entire folder filled with recipes torn from magazines gone by. It really is getting quite ridiculous. I see lovely pictures of what others have baked, get the wants and think that, yes, one day I will cook exactly that. Never quite happens though. Dont shame me, but my husband does the majority of cooking in my house. When we first met I pretended I didn't know what I was doing in the kitchen, and, well, about 13 years later, this seems to still be working out for me!

Point and Shoot

Saturday August 14th @ 6.30pm
Me and my 'normal' children!!!

Who doesn't love birthdays?! Especially when they are your own and your babies and husband made you such a lovely cake whilst you were out shopping on your own at Chadstone for five hours after already delivering you breakfast, a cup of tea and gifts in bed?! When asked during the week what kind of cake I wanted I told them it needed to be chocolate, with chocolate icing and decorated with freckles and m&ms - my all time favourite lollies. And that's exactly what I got too! Notice the 35 spelled out in freckles on top.

As well as meandering around Chaddy for several hours, I got to meet with some lovely friends of mine at the Lindt cafe (OMG - croissant with a pot of Lindt chocolate for dipping!!!) and got spoiled with a wide range of gorgeous gifts including this one below.

Super cute huh? My friends clearly feed my babushka addiction! I behaved like a teenager today too and smiggled my iphone with a babushka cover. After all of that I was still able to fit in some Thai take-away for dinner with a lovely wine or 3!

Make sure you head over to FatMumSlim for more Point and Shoot action.

Happy birthday to me... almost!

Who'd a thunk it?! I'm 35 tomorrow and I STILL get pimples! What's with that?! As I age, I find myself asking the universe the big questions in life!
By the way, I did attempt to find a picture to go with this post by typing 'pimple images' into google. My advice - don't do it!

What do you think?

I already have a small tattoo on my right inner ankle - a small rose. A spur of the moment decision when I was 18 which I am yet to regret. My sister and I had parked at the front of a tattoo studio and in we strolled. Forty dollars and about an hour later I was done. My mum was not impressed but since she is also a marked woman, she couldn't really say too much.

I really would love another. A small lion's head just like Christina Ricci's. She got hers because she loved 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe' as a small person. I want it because I am a Leo and have a small lion obsession! This is the nicest one I've seen in a while. Most lions manage to look fierce and scary and I really like how Christina's is a nice simple outline of his head only.

Now, where do I put it? And who wants to come hold my hand?

Point and Shoot

Friday, August 6th - before school! Grandma was teaching the small people how to play games on her iphone. Matilda thought it was fantastic and was clearly making sure she got a turn too.

Side story - This was just before we took Grandma to the airport for her big 2 month trip away! Lucky lady - England, Ireland, Scotland, France! Funnily enough, my in-laws left last week on their overseas jaunt as well though they are doing Italy and then a cruise down/up (???) the Danube River. And then at the start of last week my dad took off too - America, Britain, France. Soooooo jealous of them all. Just hoping I dont have to wait till I am in my 60's to see any of the world!

Best movie ever!

This has to be my all time movie ever. I have watched it sooooo many times I have become one of those annoying people who say the words as the actors say them! I cant even pick a favourite scene because they all are! I strongly recommend you read the book too. It's just as good.

What's your favourite?

Some city culture for me... with free alcohol! Yay!

So here we are naughtily taking a wee pic before it started. I am blaming my free glass of wine for the breaking of rules! My mum found the son of one her friends serving behind the bar... and well, you can't say no to free grog, even if you are the person driving! Needless to say, the whole thing was fantastic! Loved Mary, loved Bert, loved the kids! Even loved our seats up on high! Take your small people if you can and force them to stay for the entire production even if they start getting antsy, cause the last 5 minutes are worth it!
*spoiler alert*
Mary flies over the entire crowd! As if by magic! Right into this clever little spot in the ceiling!
Oh, and make sure you eat some dinner before you go because the $5.50 small bag of Maltesers shared between my mother in law, my mum and me do not a dinner make! And if you want to buy lovely Mary Poppins paraphanalia, make sure you bring plenty more dollars! Want her brolly? $55! A t-shirt? $40! A program filled with lovely pictures? $20! Hmm, too much for me I'm afraid, but would loved to have bought Matilda a wee top that said 'Practically Perfect', cause she is! Almost. If she actually managed to sleep all night. In her own bed.

Supercallafragalisticexpiallidocious....

I'm off into the city tonight for an evening at the theatre with my mum and my mother in law! So excited on several fronts - getting to watch Mary Poppins, no small people (well none of my own anyway), adult company, dressing up, maybe eating out at a restuarant! Even better, the I didn't have to pay for my own ticket! Will be back in the next few days to tell you all about it.
And by the way, feel free to correct my spelling in the title!

At my house...

I have kinda cheated a little with this 'at my house', cause nothing has really been happening here today, except a bad case of Mondayitis for everyone. Instead, I have been playing around with Picasa 3 (which I am loving!) and managed to create a collage of some of the babushka things in Matilda's room. Yes, I am obsessed! And this is not all of them by the way.
Some of my favourites are the lovely big babushka from Morgan Wills; the lovely Little Matryoshkas book with pop out matryoshkas for each day of the week from Babys Got Style and down the bottom in the middle is Matilda's hair clip board my lovely friend Kate made with babushka fabric from ebay and loads of lovely hairclips from various sources (try Buttons by Lou Lou and Flirty Bird).

Can you point me in the direction of anything else?

Point and Shoot

Sunday, August 1st
This is my husband's new wife, I mean boat! No paint, no name and no engine in it as yet but you can see why I possibly may never see or hear from him again. See the cockpit? There's only room for one and my butt doesn't really fit in there. Cant even ski behind it cause it goes to fast!
Does your husband have a ridiculous (and entirely tooooo expensive) hobby?

Super easy instructions for making a fancy blog header!

So I joined wee group called Aussie Mummy Bloggers and put the call out for someone to show me how to fancy up a blog heading. A lovely lady pointed me to this blog! Super easy to follow and as you can see above it works! I haven't quite perfected it yet, but it certainly beats what was there!
