Point and Shoot: Birthday Breakfast

Sunday morning, August 14th

We normally never brave eating in public with the small people... the are just too food fussy and it ends up being more trouble than it's worth.  But since it was my birthday and we found a lovely nursery and cafe that had coco pops on their kids menu we decided to risk it!

They look sweet and innocent dont they.....

They totally aren't!!!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I got to spend some of my Sunday shopping at Chadstone on my own as a birthday treat!!!  Loved it!  Came home with a new handbag and a pair of those new Levi jeans designed for women with curves.  I bought the skinny leg version and the mirror in Myer made my arse look great... plus they were also 25% off!  Highly recommended.   I may also have bought several Peanut Butter Lindt balls which I have been sneakily eating all morning because they are tooooooooo good to share!

Point and Shoot: A Saturday Drive

I spent the loveliest day on Saturday going for a drive with my mum.  We headed to Woodend and Hanging Rock, the place my mum got married to my stepfather (who recently passed away).  My mum raised us on the movie Picnic at Hanging Rock and has always loved it - we all do!  From there we drove through to Daylesford for lunch and a visit to the Lark store and then onto Ballarat where we had the nicest visit to Morgan Wills' new shop, The Crafty Squirrel.

Lovely memory blocks found at a yummy cafe in Woodend.  I think I'd like the King and Queen ones over my bedhead!

Have you seen the movie? Watch the clip to the end - I have a suprise for you later!

We did wonder whether Hanging Rock might need another name!!??

Holding up the 'Hanging Rock'

Strike a pose!!!!
Mum and I crawled through all the cracks and crevices re-enacting scenes from the movie!

I even managed to crawl right to the very top.  It really is the most incredible view in all directions.  I highly recommend a visit - even small people would be able to manage the walk.

A highlight for me - finally a visit to the Lark shop!  It is just as lovely as you'd imagine with load of gorgeous things to buy and really lovely, friendly, helpful staff!

The Crafty Squirrel in Ballarat!  You might notice that I am wearing one of Morgan's scarves for the occasion - and how great is that matching yarn-bombed telegraph pole out the front!

Honestly, the things we do.  And we weren't even drinking.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.  If you've got some pictures to share you can always join in with Point and Shoot.

Point & Shoot: a kiddie focused weekend!

A trip to the movies to see Cars 2.....

...where one of these small people fell asleep on their daddy.

A couple of games of bowling....
....where one of the small people solidly beat their mummy.
(And if someone could enlighten me as to why two games of bowling is cheaper than one??!!)

And just because I think it is looking so pretty...
... I couldn't wait to start joining up those 180 circles!  Two rows done with their ends sewn in.... only 13 more to go!

Point and Shoot: Mother's Day Weekend

We have had a very busy, full house this weekend with both my sisters and my mum flying in for a quick visit and a Mother's Day treat. After arriving on Friday morning we had a jaunt into the city we're I paid $51 for approximately 5 minutes of parking! We did have some yummy cupcakes in Degraves Lane and found the most adorable vintagey type shop upstairs in the Nicholson building. I bought two lovely soft touch crochet hooks that have been a dream to work with.

We spent most of Saturday morning at Westfield Doncaster before heading home to beautify ourselves. We had dinner in the city at Rosati and then literally jogged in our heels down to the theatre to watch Anthony Warlow in Dr Zhivago - a movie my mother must have watched 107 times by now.

A late night for us then a super early morning to run the family back to the airport.

Just sharing a few happy snaps from my iphone. One day I really am going to invest in a proper camera.

Miss Matilda posing in front of the lovely babushka shop in the city.

Some sibling love.

Oscar's welcoming committee at school pick up on Friday. They all cheered him down the stairs - otherwise known as hellish embarrassment for a 7 year old!

My sister and I and our matching shoes. Caught a couple of ladies laughing at us in the loo line up - I am sure they were just jealous of our red peeptoe goodness.

My big sister Melinda, my mum, my other big sister Tania and I. Poor mum looks a bit short here but we were all in heels and she was in flats having just come out of knee surgery.

My only purchase from Westfields on Saturday (apart from coffee of course!) - and what a bargain for $12.97!

Hot air balloons snapped on the way home from the airport this morning. This image is quite deceptive because they were quite close, I could see the people in them shivering through the early morning clouds and fog!

Point and Shoot: A smashing birthday party!

I think in the future I am going to outsource all my children's birthday parties!  Having someone else run the show meant that I was able to stand back and enjoy the moment and even chat to some friends.  Really, I didn't even have to make a cake as the bowling alley could have provided one!

Anyway, since I created an animation when I made the cake, I figured we needed one for the reverse!

Point and Shoot: A Shadow Shot

What do you do on school holidays when the first sight of sun apears after what feels like a week of rain?

Playground anyone?

I love how the smalls never get sick of going to the little playground round the corner from us.  We tend to scoot there, swing, slide and seesaw, then scoot home again.  Just enough to break up our day a bit and not too far away that anyone gets 'cranky' legs from having to walk to far.

Point and Shoot: Football in miniture.

The middle one joined up to Auskick this weekend.  I think he was more chuffed with the outfit, the shoes and the free bag full of various football paraphanalia rather than the actual concept of running, kicking and joining in some type of group activity.

Oh, the sideways smirk!  It gets me every time.

Point and shoot: A sick weekend

I would date and time this shot, but really it would suit any one of the past 48 hours.  My littlest person has been throwing up since late Friday night, hence the consistent dozing on the couch surrounded by towels and a bowl.  It's not attractive to think about but I have cleaned up about 20 chucks and I am OVER it!  I dont know about anyone else but I'd take poo over vomit anyday.

To make matters worse, my husband is absent this weekend as well, so I have dealt with this all on my lonesome.  My poor big boys have been planted in front of the tv for two days (which I'm certain is there version of heaven anyway).

Feel free to leave sympathy in bucket loads.  Or run from here as fast as you can for fear of catching germs.

Point and Shoot: Easy Peasy Lemon Tarts

Saturday, March 5th... the leftovers.

10 Butternut Snap cookies
280g jar of lemon butter
250g Philly cream cheese

Line some muffin trays with patty pans.  Place a butternut snap biscuit in the base of each.  Combine your lemon butter and cream cheese, mixing until nice and smooth.  Dollop onto each biscuit, decorate with raspberries and pop into the freezer for a few hours to set.

Enjoy.  And try to stop at one!

Point + Shoot: Isaac on the Iphone

I should change this post from a thoughtful point + shoot and start calling it 'random iphone shots'!  Has anyone else found that with an iphone your actual camera hardly ever makes an appearance?

Sunday afternoon, driving home from Venus Bay in the car.
I looooove how Curious George is safely tucked into his seatbelt.

Isaac's pen drawing of us.  Loving how he is doing his M's with the three strokes down and one across the top.

Point and Shoot: Sunny Sunday

I am sure the theory behind Point + Shoot is all about taking one shot from your weekend and sharing the where, whens and hows, but sometimes you have such a nice day with your family you end up snapping dozens of little moments that you don't want to forget about and then you can't decide which ones are exciting enough for sharing!  Bother.

Yesterday we went for a little picnic to a nice park in Healesville.  Twas very nice with a bit of sun and a lovely breeze, a yummy bakery, a playground and little path for scooting.  We shall ignore the police chase across the lawn to catch the shop stealing teenage girls and our very short and sweet visit to the skate ramp full of 13 year old swearing boys with freaky haircuts.

Mmmm, coffee and lemon tart.

How to convince this newbie scooter to wear a helmet?

Yay, some time to read the Sunday magazines!

A scooter race.

A quick kiss, captured by Oscar!

Trying out the ramp at the 'f**kn' skate park!  We heard that word every 5 seconds I swear!

All finished off with some cheats baking.  (Cheating is using a Betty Crocker Cookie Mix!)

I'm off to clean my house now like a maniac as I am hosting the kinder morning tea for the 4th year in a row!  You'd think people would want to sticky beak in someone elses house by now!

A wee giveaway.... just because.

Are you feeling the love yet?  Getting ready for Valentines Day?  We tend to not make too much fuss in this house about it.  Which really means, I'd like there to be a fuss but the chances are slim and really there is no point getting my knickers in a twist about it year after year cause I knew all about his anti-acknowledgement of various occasions before I got in too deep!

I have been busy faking the love though in this house, getting the smalls to draw lovehearts, colouring them in and cutting them out just to give to people they love - most have been coming my way I'm pleased to report!  I'd like to share it around a bit and have decided to give this sweet little crochet heart garland away.  I made it from this free tutorial over here if you want to have a go at some yourself.  It's not perfect, but seriously, love never is.  All you need to do to win is leave me a little comment telling me who/what you love and why.  Easy peasy lemon squeezy.  The winner will be chosen at random on Wednesday this week to give me a chance to pop it in the post so it gets to you by Valentine's Day on Monday.  And I'm sorry to all of my international readers (there aren't any I'm sure since I only have about 3 people who follow me!) but this is only open to Australian residents.

Just to extend the crochet love a little further, I have been obsessed with making these:

Crochet granny triangle bunting!  I found this wonderful tutorial over here.  I am joining in with Meet Me at Mikes: Make this Monday for this.  You should pop on over to Pip's and see all the lovely things that other people are making.

Just for fun I'm also linking in with FatMumSlim's point and shoot because this is all I managed to take photos of this weekend.  With my iphone mind you because it appears my actual camera has gone walkabout, so apologies for the very bad photos!

Point and Shoot: Tantrum Central

Friday afternoon, 28th January, Venus Bay Skate Bowl

Two year olds little girls live in a whole other world... one where they are in charge and should be allowed to do whatever they want, whatever their big brothers do, especially things that their mummy might deem to be unsafe.  Like, perhaps, scooting around the lip of the skate park.  Without a helmet on.

When these tantys happen at home she would normally hang her head down near her feet and scream as if being murdered.  In this case though, the pavement was a little warm and I think as it started burning her forehead, she realised that squatting and screaming was just as effective.

And how do we stop these ear-splitting scream fests?

We give in!
Which is perhaps why the tantrum is such an effective behaviour for her in the first place.  You'd think by the third one I would have realised this!

Point and Shoot: Nostalgia

Sunday morning, playing with my old Fisher Price School House.

I'm not sure how old this might be but since I remember playing with it myself as a small person, I'm guessing about 30.  I loved it then and someone else loves it now! - especially the little slide, swings and roundabout!  Can you see the teacher still sitting at her little desk on the foldout blackboard?  And the bell on top of the school house - it sill rings!  Just wish I had more of the people that go with it.  If you have any that you want to part with I'd be very willing to purchase them!

Saturday morning, Weight Watchers Meeting

After literally having to dust off my sneakers I decided it was time to sign back up this weekend.  I'm a lifetime member and it's been a great program to use for each of those post baby periods.  This time I have no baby as an excuse... just too much Christmas and New Year.  It's a new program so I'm just feeling my way with it this week but we'll see how we go.  I was very entertained by the leader at this particular group making us all stand up at the end to follow her in some lovely chants full of such useful advice such as, "Little pickers wear big knickers," and "Pass the lips, onto the hips."

Point + Shoot: Dare me and I'll do it!

Today, just hanging around at the local playground!

This is my friend's little girl Zoe who is a Monkey with a capital M on the bars!  Watch me, she says, bet you cant do this!  Actually, yes I can!  At 35, I've still got it baby!

Now I've got you here - would you like to bid on an online auction to raise funds for the QLD Flood Appeal?  I am running three here - one, two, three (number 3 is my favourite, kinda wishing I could bid and win my own auction!) - and you can find loads more over this way.  All money raised goes directly to the Premier's Flood Relief Appeal.

Oh, and you can check out other people who've joined in with Point + Shoot over here with FatMumSlim.

Point and Shoot: Date Night

Midnightish, Saturday, January 8th.  Slightly drunk, self portrait, iphone shot.

So we escaped this weekend without our children - left them with my sister overnight for the first time ever.  It's taken us this long to do because all of our immediate family live in Tassie and most of our friends in Melbourne have small people themselves so I dont feel it's fair to ask them to have three extra ones for the night.

I cannot tell you how much fun it was!  At breakfast this morning we worked out that we had not had breakfast on our own, together since before Oscar was born - 6 and half years ago!  We strolled round shops, bought some cheap bathers from Big W so we could swim in the hotel pool, had a spa bath in our room (!!), had a really yummy dinner at this teeny tiny Italian restuarant, managed to sleep in this morning, got the papers delivered to our room and then ate a huge big breakfast before heading home!

All in all, I can highly recommend date nights!

Point and Shoot: Santa

I know point and shoot is all about a single image... but I couldn't resist with some of my favourites from the weekend.

Isaac sneaking in for a treat from Santa at the Kinder break up party. This was truly the funniest Santa I've ever met! Played by one of the kinder mum's fathers, he truly delved right into the role and the kids all loved him... particularly when he started talking about 'pop offs'! Toilet humour and 4 year olds make such a happy mix.

Me and Matilda - I was trying to get her warmed up to the whole Santa experience as we planned on attempting the real deal at the shops the next day.

So, it's a photo of a photo - worse, an iphone photo of a photo, but Santa turned out successfully in the end... if success means they all sat near him, no one cried and they are all vaguely looking in the direction of the camera. Can you tell Isaac has only just put his tongue back into his mouth?!

And to finish off, a tea party with all our friends. Cute, yes?

Point and Shoot: Pip's Christmas Baubles

Sunday night, 10pm, created whilst watching Offspring (oh, Dr Chris, yum!) and downloading Margaret Fulton's Christmas app! Perhaps I should have been concentrating some more, yes? They dont quite look like Pip's gorgeous one's. I think praps I should use bigger balls next time, you know, just to spread the crochety bits out a bit and make them look prettier. What's your verdict?

Point and Shoot: To infinity and beyond!

Saturday, October 30th, sometime between 12 and 2!

We are finally over Isaac's birthday week, which is basically what it turned into! Thankfully the rain held off on Saturday so the party guests did get to go outside. And my Buzz cake turned out ok - although something hinky seems to be going on with his face!
How was your weekend?
